Applied Data & AI Scientist (preferred location: Spain)

Job mission

We are looking for an Applied Data & AI Scientist to help accelerate AI transformation initiatives across Synthon by developing practical  data-driven and AI-powered solutions that create and deliver measurable business value.

The role combines strong data science and machine learning expertise with modern AI and Generative AI capabilities to develop practical and scalable AI solutions that address real business challenges.
You will work closely with business stakeholders, AI engineers, data engineers, and IT teams to identify opportunities, prototype solutions, and support the deployment of scalable AI applications across the organization. This is a highly hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys solving real-world business problems using modern AI technologies in a collaborative and fast-evolving environment.

Responsibilities

• Assess opportunities for AI and data-driven solutions across business domains
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify opportunities where AI and data-driven solutions can create business value
• Develop and prototype machine learning and Generative AI use cases that address real business challenges across the organization
• Design, build, implement and evaluate AI solutions ranging from predictive analytics and machine learning models to modern AI applications such as knowledge assistants and intelligent automation solutions
• Work with both structured and unstructured data sources to generate insights and support decision-making
• Support the deployment and adoption of AI solutions in collaboration with AI engineers, data engineers, and IT teams
• Contribute to AI best practices, reusable solution patterns, and responsible AI initiatives
• Stay informed about developments in AI, machine learning, and data science, and assess their potential application within Synthon

Location

Preferred location: Sant Boi de Llobregat, Spain. Alternatively, HQ Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

Your profile

Your letter of motivation and CV should show that you have:

• MSc or PhD in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, Applied AI, or a related discipline
• Strong foundation in machine learning, statistics, and data science methodologies
• Experience developing and applying machine learning, data science or AI solutions in a business environment
• Strong Python programming skills
• Experience working with structured and unstructured data

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure
• Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents, or AI orchestration frameworks
• Experience working in pharmaceutical, biotech, manufacturing, or other regulated industries

Languages

Good command of the Spanish and English language, both excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Personal skills

You are a curious and hands-on AI professional with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You enjoy translating business challenges into high impact practical AI solutions and can effectively collaborate and closing the gap  between technical and non-technical stakeholders. You combine a proactive, results-oriented mindset with a passion for continuous learning and staying up to date with emerging AI technologies. You are comfortable working both, independently and as part of a team, taking ownership of delivering high-quality outcomes in a dynamic and evolving environment.
