Join Us in Shaping a Safer Workplace

Occupational Toxicologist

Synthon is a global market leader in the development of complex generics. As a company, we focus on developing, manufacturing and out-licensing complex generics and hybrid medicines for patients around the world. Synthon is implementing ambitious plans for improving its EHS performance and strengthening the toxicologic expertise within the company.

Are you passionate about applying toxicology to real challenges in occupational and product safety? Do you thrive on turning data into actionable insights that make a concrete difference in your colleague work lives? Do you get energized from working in a global setting without the need to have a lot of business trips? If so, we’d love to welcome you to our team as an Occupational Toxicologist.

About the Role

In this role, you will be at the frontline of ensuring safe working environments by delivering high-quality hazard and risk assessments on our products and chemical intermediates. While your primary focus will be on occupational (worker) safety, product safety also plays a key part. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to apply your toxicological expertise in an industrial setting, particularly if you have a keen interest in occupational hygiene.

You enjoy digging into literature, analyze our production processes, and combining this information with professional judgment to create robust hazard and risk evaluations. With your assessments you create regulatory documentation and serve as vital expert for both internal teams and external stakeholders.

Your mission

As an Occupational Toxicologist, you will play a vital role in supporting the safe development, production, and handling of our chemical substances. Your work will directly contribute to protecting worker health and regulatory compliance.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluating the hazardous properties of chemical substances using toxicological studies and QSAR models to define safe workplace conditions.
  • Developing and updating critical regulatory documents such as Safety Data Sheets, OEL (Occupational Exposure Limits), and PDE (Permitted Daily Exposure) reports.
  • Assigning OEB (Occupational Exposure Banding) levels to our products.
  • Monitoring and implementing changes in chemical legislation (e.g., REACH, CLP, PFAS).
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing and R&D pilot plants, process engineering, EHS, and industrial hygiene professionals to implement exposure control measures and containment strategies.
  • Communicate potential health risks to stakeholders across operations and R&D pilot plants.
  • Provide technical expertise during internal audits and external regulatory inspections (e.g., FDA, EMA).
  • Supporting transportation safety documentation for hazardous materials.
  • Mentor and guide junior toxicologists or health & safety professionals.
  • Enhancing the efficiency and consistency of our documentation and archiving processes.

What You Bring

  • A Master’s degree in Toxicology or a related field with a strong toxicology component.
  • 0–5 years of experience in an applied scientific role focused on hazardous substances—ideally within the pharmaceutical industry or a consultancy environment.
  • A background in toxicology with an interest in occupational hygiene—or vice versa, with proven toxicological experience.
  • Registration as a toxicologist (or the ambition to become one).
  • Familiarity with EU chemical safety regulations (such as EU-CLP, REACH) is a strong plus.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.

Who You Are

You’re detail-oriented, pragmatic and bring excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. You are energized by translating complex toxicological information into actionable guidance for operations teams with your strong interpersonal and communication skills.
You work independently and are able to collaborate across multiple functions. Your well-structured approach and result-oriented mindset with focus on compliance and continuous improvement make you a trusted partner in any project.
And yes—sharing a coffee and a conversation with you is genuinely enjoyable.
